Advocacy Resources

We stand for Self, Individual and Systems Advocacy

All of the organizations below offer trainings, programs, and other resources that are specifically designed to help women get engaged in policy and advocacy in Georgia.

  • 9to5 –9to5 is one of the largest, most respected national membership      organizations of working women in the U.S., dedicated to putting working      women’s issues on the public agenda. The Georgia chapter hosts      workshops, trainings, and other events throughout the state, on issues like      voter turnout, workplace policies that allow women to prioritize their      families without jeopardizing their careers, and women’s participation in      the public sphere.
  • Georgia Commission on Women – The Georgia General Assembly created the GCW in 1992      to improve the lives of women in our state. Fifteen Georgians make up the Commission, and the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House nominate them for four-year terms. Their members, appointed from all regions of the state, are devoted to the health, education, employment, and legal status of women in Georgia. They developed health programs including  the Georgia Osteoporosis Initiative, provide scholarships so more Georgia women can take advantage of educational opportunities, and lobby the state      government to protect and defend vulnerable members of Georgia communities. You can get engaged by attending their meetings or events!
  • Her Term – Her Term is a Georgia-based initiative created to recruit women to run for      public office at the local, state, and national levels. Their goal is to see more women take on critical elected roles – and to see every branch of government transformed by equitable representation. They are a great organization to connect with if you are looking to run for an elected position!
  • Junior League of Atlanta – The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. (JLA) is an organization of women committed to making lasting transformation in the Atlanta community. They      have trained women leaders to tackle tough issues impacting women and children for 100 years. They provide a strong foundation for civic leadership and connect women who share a commitment to voluntarism and community transformation. Visit their site to learn more about how to become a member.
  • League of Women Voters of Georgia – The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan      political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. They have several league organizations throughout Georgia, offering various events and opportunities for women to join their local league or  to get involved as a policy advocate in other ways.
  • NewPowerPAC – NewPowerPAC directly addresses the absence of women in Georgia politics by recruiting, training, endorsing, and financially supporting women candidates for elected offices throughout Georgia. With the help of NewPowerPAC, Georgia is one of only a handful of states with the institutional resources crucial to electing women to office. Their website contains a multitude of resources for Georgia women looking to run for      office.
  • National Women’s Political Caucus of Georgia – The National Women’s Political Caucus is a multicultural, inter-generational, and multi-issue grassroots organization dedicated to      increasing women’s participation in the political process and creating a  true women’s political power base to achieve equality for all women. The Georgia chapter provides support to candidates running for all levels of office by helping raise money and providing crucial hands-on volunteer      assistance.
